From earth moving equipment to automobiles; medical devices to consumer products, Illinois is home to 20,000 manufacturers who employ nearly 600,000 people and generate more than 13.5 percent of the GDP in Illinois. Makers of some of the world's best known brands, they are supported by a rich network of suppliers and component manufacturers and staffed by the most productive workforce in the world. Illinois manufacturers are a significant driver of innovation and exports, and account for more investments in Research and Development than any other sector.
IMEC, along with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), the Manufacturing Extension Partnership, and other friends of manufacturing, have created this portal to showcase the diversity of products made here and celebrate the companies that manufacture them. In cities and towns from Chicago to Carbondale, manufacturing is the engine that powers the Illinois economy.
